16 dead, many injured

The unspeakable massacre of 16 civilian population of Afghanistan by an American soldier is more than a crime. But it is, and a sickening.

The mind reels can expect an Army Sergeant entering homes in the middle of the night, cold shooting and killing many innocent people — including nine children and three women.

The horror of the bloodshed is compounded because of damage to the American war effort.

Relations between the United States and Afghanistan, which had spiraled into violence after the accidental burning of Korans from US forces, and other perceived insults, had begun to show small correction.

There was agreement on the transfer of prisoners Friday rebels from US control of Afghanistan, a key piece of a broader strategic arrangement between the two countries.

Successfully conclude the long and painful American commitment, as President Obama plans depends as brokering an agreement.

But these are all now at risk.

On Sunday, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said, "when the Americans killing civilians intentionally, this is called terror and is inexcusable Act."

On Monday, members of the country's Parliament accused the USA of absurd orchestrating the slaughter — the lower House joined to demand the soldier brought before the Afghan justice system.

And certainly a man of derangement it led some to question the impeccable service of the millions of men and women who have worn the American uniform in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

Slaughter cannot, must not be allowed to overshadow this heritage. More than 2.2 million Americans have served in these wars.

In great numbers, not only did this nation, but Nations proud. They have saved much more innocent lives from what they have been put at risk.

Still, regardless of how representative this one Act, U.S. should consider the consequence of actions of an American.

The accused, an 11-year veteran who had served three tours in Iraq and launched its first deployment in Afghanistan in December, was to support a special operations unit dealing with an attempt at stability of the village.

According to the report left the base and walked a mile in a nearby village. There is said to have entered three houses, victims shot 12 dead and set fire to some of the institutions.

Then, he walked about a mile to a second village. There, he killed four more people in a House and shot one in a second.

Human suffering is incomprehensible.

The wider damage is incalculable.

Heart sinks.
