Diane von Furstenberg debuts new fashion line for little girls

She's become a fashion icon for her signature slinky wrap dresses and vintage prints.

And now Diane von Furstenberg is shrinking her designs down to size for a smaller crowd.

That's right, mini fashionistas can soon turn heads down Fifth Ave. with their sartorially-savvy mommies when they sport their DVF for GapKids and babyGap gear, hitting stores March 15.

“It is never too early to start empowering little girls to be the woman they want to be,” the fairy godmother of the industry said of her minis line.

“I have always thought about designing a line for little girls and when Gap approached me it was the perfect opportunity,” von Furstenberg told The Daily News.

Among the extensive line are the designer’s signature prints — hibiscus and leaf motifs — with a relaxed, playful mix of t-shirt dresses, tanks and shorts, capris, leggings and swimwear.

Accessories like sunglasses, espadrilles and sunglasses will accent the line.

To top it off, a new emblem in pink and heather grey will bear a Gap/DVF motif which will appear on ballet pumps, beach bags, hi-top sneakers and more.

“It is all adorable, but I especially love the wrap rompers and the simple t-shirt dresses over leggings,” she says of her favorites. “A little girl has got to move.”

And for the tiniest of tykes, von Furstenberg's legendary wrap will be re-invented, with a child-like higher waist detail, in structured cotton or as a jersey romper.

“When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be grown up, so I thought about that a lot,” she says of re-creating the garment. “But I think what we came up with is true to the original spirit of the dress and also perfect for little girls.”

And perfect for the piggy bank as well. The prices are probably the most appealing aspect of the line, ranging from $20 for sunhats, baby leggings, and flip flops to $120 for a colorful diaper bag.
