Mount Sinai Hospital seeking the green light for enlargement

A Western extension of hospital Queens traction WINS in the community as State officials mull cotinue to the proposal.

Mount Sinai Hospital Queens seeks regulatory approval for a development of 113 million dollars to add 95,000 square feet to the existing facility, State officials said.

The proposal, which was filed in December, requested by an explosion of population in the region has put a premium on hospital beds, said hospital spokeswoman Shelly Felder.

Elected officials have made their weight behind the proposal, with a coalition of nine legislators signed a letter to State health services Commisioner Nirav Shah asking him to sign on to the plan.

"The delegation of Jamaica supported the extension and we have to continue to work together to get this thing to move," said City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. (D-Astoria, Illinois).

Aravella Simotas Assemblywoman said she saw first hand during a recent visit to the hospital how packed with patients.

"It's an incredible need in our community," said Simotas (D-Astoria, Illinois).

The Long Island City and Astoria, seeing a large influx of new residents, this trend will continue, it added.

"Astoria, Illinois and Western Queens is a community that is growing and we need a shed for storage," said Simotas.
