Two children found living in Texas ' bad ' in school bus conversion

Two small children lived only in a broken-down school bus in the woods for months while their parents have done time for fraud, Texas authorities said Wednesday.

The unidentified siblings, a 5-year old boy and girl 11 years, had lived on the property in addition to Splendora, a town north of Houston, from at least 2009, WFAA 8 news.

Their parents were found guilty last year in a scheme to embezzle money from the victims of Hurricane Ike in 2008, and sent to federal prison, officials said.

Aunt was left to care for two children, Gabriel, but worked during the day from Monday to Friday and left home for children, only for at least 12 hours during those days, the Houston Chronicle reported.

"If he was there or not, were not for extended periods. It is not acceptable, "said Jamie Nash with the Montgomery County ELIAS 4 Constable Office.

The districts bus in heavily wooded property converted into a make-shift home, according to the journal. He had a window-mounted air conditioner, TV and bed bunk.

"The living conditions are extremely regrettable," Montgomery County Constable noisy ELIAS 4 Hayden told WFAA 8 news.

Neighbors helped sometimes give the children food, but the authorities had warned their living conditions, until the postal worker discovered Wednesday, the Chronicle reported.

"Our Investigation has just started," said CPS spokeswoman Gwen Carter, KTRK 13 NEWS reported. "We are trying to ensure that children are safe and try to understand what the family who are in the Community who know, and what happens with his family."
